Established 1858
Nestled in beautiful White County, Georgia, Cleveland First Methodist Church has served our mountain community for generations. Whether you’re a longtime resident or new, we invite you to experience the faith and fellowship that makes our church family special.
Meet Pastor Brian Alexander
Brian was appointed Pastor of Cleveland in January of 2025 and is both honored and blessed to serve Cleveland as their spiritual leader and guide, as it has been his home church for over twenty-five years. One of his favorite verses is Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” His desire is to not only preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but to create a place of love and compassion within the church, remembering the tenets of John Wesley, and practice prudential acts of grace. To embody Christ in all who come through the doors and those we come in contact with each day.
In addition to the role of Pastor, Brian serves the community as a Licensed Funeral Director with Barrett Funeral Home, assisting those who have lost a loved one. This position, which he has held for several years, enables him to better understand those who are hurting and need spiritual direction. Brian is currently in seminary completing classes at Wesley Biblical Seminary, and currently studying at Indiana Wesley Seminary.
Brian is married to his high school sweetheart, Connie, who he has celebrated forty-five years of marriage with. They are the proud parents of Kurt and his wife Shaina, “their daughter by choice,” as well as their two granddaughters, Chloe, a senior in high school who is preparing for a career in dance, and Ava, who is a Junior at North Hall High School.
Brian brings his passion to the ministry and to those he encounters, with the knowledge that we are the church, and wherever we are and whoever we come into contact with, we should present it with boldness. “We get to do this!”
Robert Williams, Music Director
Robert Williams began his career as a saxophonist at White County High School, in Cleveland Georgia. He continued his education with a Bachelor’s degree in Music from The North Carolina School of the Arts, where he won the school’s concerto competition to be featured soloist with the symphony orchestra. He continued his education with a Masters Degree in Music from Appalachian State University, with a Major in Saxophone Performance. He later added another Masters degree in Music Education.
He has performed extensively in the genres of Worship and Contemporary Christian Music, as well as in Classical, Jazz, and Rock Music. During his career at Seacoast the church grew from an attendance of 300 to 18,000. Currently he teaches online music classes for Southeastern University and continues to play saxophone in churches and other settings. Over the last two years he has been serving as Music Director and Consultant at Cleveland First Methodist Church.
Our Beliefs
As members of the Global Methodist Church, we hold firmly to historic Christian orthodoxy while maintaining the Wesleyan emphasis on grace, holiness, and mission. We believe in the triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and in the full divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ. We affirm that salvation comes through grace alone, by faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed in Scripture alone.
We believe the Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God, the primary source and standard for Christian doctrine and living. We practice two sacraments – baptism and Holy Communion – as means of grace through which God works in our lives. We are committed to personal holiness and social holiness, believing that authentic faith transforms both individuals and communities. Our theological convictions shape everything we do, from how we worship to how we serve.
At Cleveland First Methodist Church, we are proud to be part of the Methodist tradition that has emphasized practical, disciplined faith for centuries. The Methodist movement was born from a commitment to “methodical” spiritual practices—gathering together for prayer, Scripture study, and mutual accountability. This same spirit guides our congregation today as we pursue a warm-hearted love for God and active service to others as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Our beliefs and practices are rooted in the Book of Doctrines and Discipline of the Global Methodist Church, which reflects confessions grounded in Scripture and shaped by historic Christian teaching. We invite you to explore these foundational beliefs with us as we journey together in faith.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” – Hebrews 12:1-2

Connected in Christ
Fellowship is the heartbeat of the Christian life. When we gather together, we encourage one another, sharpen our faith, and remind each other that we’re not walking this journey alone. The early church understood this—they devoted themselves to fellowship, breaking bread together, and supporting one another through every season. In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to isolate, but God designed us for community. Regular fellowship keeps us grounded, accountable, and connected to the body of Christ. Here at Cleveland First Methodist Church, we believe that consistent participation in worship and small groups isn’t just beneficial—it’s essential for spiritual growth and resilience.
